Cartridge-Operated Mining Vehicle Fire Suppression System for Heavy-Duty Machines
Product Overview

1. Product Overview
The PRI-SAFETY Cartridge-Operated Mining Vehicle Fire Suppression System is designed for heavy equipment operating in mining, quarrying, construction and other demanding industrial environments.
The system combines a heat-detection cable, control panel, automatic starting bottle, manual starting bottle, expellant gas cartridge, fire agent cylinder and fixed discharge nozzles.
When activated, the separate expellant gas cartridge pressurizes the fire agent cylinder. The extinguishing agent is then delivered through the discharge piping to selected fire-risk areas.
Single-cylinder and multi-cylinder configurations are available according to the machine size and required protection zones.
Mining vehicles operate under vibration, dust, high temperatures and long working hours. Fuel leaks, hydraulic oil, hot engine surfaces and electrical faults may create fire risks in areas that are difficult for the operator to observe. The system can be designed to protect selected areas such as:
- Engine compartments
- Turbocharger and exhaust areas
- Hydraulic pumps and hoses
- Diesel fuel lines
- Electrical compartments
- Battery enclosures
- Generator compartments
- Other enclosed machinery hazards
The exact protection scope should be determined from the machine drawings, photographs and actual component positions.

Working Principle
-
Automatic Activation
The heat-detection cable is installed around the selected fire-risk areas.
When the cable reaches its rated activation temperature, it sends a signal to the control panel. The panel energizes the solenoid valve and opens the automatic starting gas bottle.
Starting pressure travels through the gas pipe to the pneumatic actuator. The actuator opens the separate expellant gas cartridge.
The released propellant gas enters and pressurizes the fire agent cylinder. The extinguishing agent is then discharged through the fixed piping and nozzles toward the protected areas.
The control system can simultaneously activate a fire alarm and provide an output signal for engine shutdown.
-
Electrical Manual Activation
The operator can press the manual release button on the control panel.
This activates the solenoid valve and follows the same automatic starting sequence:
Manual button → solenoid valve → automatic starting bottle → pneumatic actuator → expellant gas cartridge → fire agent cylinder.
-
Pneumatic Manual Activation
An independent pneumatic actuator can be installed inside the cab or on the exterior of the vehicle.
When operated, the manual starting cartridge releases pressure to the pneumatic actuator. The actuator opens the expellant gas cartridge, which then pressurizes the fire agent cylinder for discharge.
This provides a separate manual starting method in addition to the electrical control system.
-
Detection-Cable Monitoring
When the detection cable is disconnected or damaged, the control panel can provide a fault alarm for inspection.

Products Application
The system can be configured for:
- Mining haul trucks
- Underground mining vehicles
- Hydraulic excavators
- Wheel loaders
- Bulldozers
- Drill rigs
- Motor graders
- Load-haul-dump machines
- Quarry equipment
- Service trucks
- Mobile generators
- Construction machinery
- Forestry equipment
- Agricultural machinery
- Port and material-handling equipment
Different machines require different cylinder positions, detection routes, nozzle quantities and discharge-pipe layouts.

Customized System Design
System capacity should not be selected only by the equipment model or engine-compartment size.
PRI-SAFETY reviews:
- Machine brand and model
- Engine-compartment dimensions
- Hydraulic and fuel-line positions
- Turbocharger and exhaust locations
- Electrical and battery hazards
- Number of protected zones
- Available cylinder installation space
- Required extinguishing agent
- Local operating conditions
- Required certification
Based on this information, we can recommend the agent capacity, cylinder quantity, starting method, detector route and nozzle arrangement.

FAQ and Inquiry
Is this a stored-pressure system?
No. It uses a separate expellant gas cartridge to pressurize the fire agent cylinder when the system is activated.
Does the detection cable directly open the agent cylinder?
No. The detection cable sends a signal to the control panel. The panel activates the solenoid starting bottle, and the resulting pressure eventually opens the expellant gas cartridge.
What manual activation methods are available?
The system can be activated through the manual button on the control panel or through an independent pneumatic manual starting device.
Can the pneumatic manual device work without the control panel?
The pneumatic manual circuit uses a manual starting cartridge to operate the pneumatic actuator. Its final configuration should be confirmed in the system design.
What happens if the detection cable is damaged?
The control panel can provide a fault alarm when the detection cable is disconnected or damaged.
Can one system protect several machine areas?
Yes. Multiple protected zones can be connected when the selected agent capacity, piping and nozzle configuration support the design.
How is the system capacity selected?
Selection depends on the hazard areas, agent type, machine layout, number of nozzles and discharge-pipe arrangement.
Can the system provide an engine-shutdown signal?
Yes. The control panel can be configured to send a signal to the vehicle controller for engine shutdown.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide:
- Machine brand and model
