NJ Transit Bus Catches Fire In New Milford

NEW MILFORD, NJ - An unoccupied NJ Transit bus caught fire at River Road and Rambler Avenue Monday morning, authorities said.

The bus was operating on the 162 line and headed to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan when a fire was reported at 9:05 a.m., said Nancy Snyder, an NJ Transit spokesperson.

There was a report of a smoking tire on the bus and the back of the bus was damaged, Snyder said.

New Milford and River Edge firefighters responded to the scene, local authorities said. Engine 32 arrived and began dousing the fire with water from a fire hydrant. Tower 31 arrived shortly thereafter and assisted.
